Implementation of the Shahid Kazemi highway project using AkaBit AD modified bitumen
Shahid Kazemi Highway is a highway in Tehran that starts from Zamzam Square and ends at Jihad Square. This highway is the traffic route of many Tehrani citizens and often has high traffic.
The aggregates used for the asphalt of this highway has a high percentage of silica. In the case of this type of material, the resistance is higher, but the possibility of cracking also increases. Due to the attention of the respected project employer (Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization) and the project consultant (Faradid Company) to the quality and moisture durability of asphalt, which is very important to prevent asphalt failures, the use of AkaBit AD to the project contractor (Mihan Kavir Company ) was announced. The asphalt pavement project of Shahid Kazemi highway was carried out in 2015 using AkaBit AD modified bitumen.
Grinding or exposure is one of the most common asphalt failures that can be prevented by increasing the adhesion of bitumen to aggregate materials. If there is sufficient adhesion between bitumen and aggregate materials, this bond will not be easily destroyed, except in cases where water molecules penetrate the bond between bitumen and aggregate and destroy it.
