Implementation of the Allameh Askari highway project using AkaBit AD

Allameh Asgari highway is located in the south of Tehran and is considered one of the main and important routes in that area, which has a high volume of traffic.

The aggregates used for the asphalt of this highway has a high percentage of silica. In the case of this type of material, the resistance is higher, but the possibility of cracking also increases. Due to the attention of the respected project employer (Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization) and the project consultant (Faradid Company) to the quality and moisture durability of asphalt, which is a very important factor in the strength and longevity of asphalt, the use of AkaBit AD to the project contractor (Milad Pakdasht Company) ) was announced. The asphalt pavement project of Allameh Asgari highway was carried out in 2015 using AkaBit AD modified bitumen.

Stripping of aggregates from the bituminous coating is a common phenomenon in asphalt mixtures, where water replaces the bituminous coating on the surface of the aggregates. The phenomenon of stripping is mostly related to the adhesion properties of bitumen and aggregates. To deal with this type of damage, the adhesive property of bitumen and aggregates should be improved, which is one of the ways to achieve it by increasing the thickness of the bituminous coating, by using AkaBit AD modified bitumen. Anti-striper is an anti-stripping liquid to increase the adhesion of bitumen to stone materials and reduce the moisture sensitivity of hot asphalt. These additives reduce the surface tension between bitumen and aggregates, and as a result, the adhesion of bitumen and components increases.
