Implementation of the asphalt project of Shahid Doran highway AkaBit AD modified bitumen

Shahid Duran highway is a busy highway in the east of Tehran. Due to the location of this freeway on a high traffic route and also the materials used in this project were silica, so its asphalt is prone to stripping and cracking, which is why the client of this project, Shahradi Tehran Engineering Organization and the project consultant, Faradid emphasized to ensure the moisture durability of asphalt and informed Paksarshan Company, the contractor of the project, to use modified asphalt for this project.

Due to the special consideration of Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization and municipal project consultants to improve the quality of asphalt and prevent asphalt damage in this project, attention was paid to the category of moisture durability and after review by the project consultant, the use of AkaBit AD modified bitumen was offered to the contractor and used in the mentioned project.

This project was implemented in 2015 for Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization by Paksarshan Company. The consultant of this project was Faradid Company.

One of the common failures in asphalt mixtures is stripping. This damage leads to a decrease in hardness, a decrease in the structural strength of road pavement layers, a decrease in adhesion between aggregate and bitumen, and a decrease in the bond strength of bitumen, and finally leads to the destruction of the road structure. In case of sufficient adhesion between bitumen and aggregate materials, this bond is no longer easily destroyed, except in cases where the water molecule penetrates the bond between bitumen and aggregates and damages the structure. As a result, all of these cases require the use of AkaBit AD to prepare moisture-resistant modified asphalt.
