Implementation of Basij highway asphalt paving project using AkaBit AD modified bitumen

Basij highway is a highway in the east of Tehran, which starts from the beginning of Khavaran road and ends at the intersection of Pirizi Street and Nirvi Air Force Street, which is one of the most important highways in this area and has high traffic.

The aggregates used for the asphalt of this highway has a high percentage of silica. In this case, the resistance is higher, but the possibility of sandblasting and exposure also increases. Due to the attention of the respected client of the project (Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization) and the project consultant (Faradid Company) to the quality and moisture durability of asphalt, which is very important in the strength and durability of asphalt, the use of AkaBit AD to the project contractor (Paksarshan Company) was announced. Basij highway asphalt paving project was carried out in 2015 using AkaBit AD modified bitumen.

Grinding is one of the common failures in asphalt mixtures. This damage leads to a decrease in hardness, a decrease in the structural strength of road pavement layers, a decrease in adhesion between aggregate and bitumen, and a decrease in the bond strength of bitumen, and finally leads to the destruction of the road structure. If sufficient adhesion is created between bitumen and aggregates, this bond will not be easily destroyed, except in cases where water molecules penetrate the bond between bitumen and aggregate and destroy it. As a result, it is necessary to use AkaBit AD to prepare moisture-resistant asphalt.
