Implementation of the asphalt project of Shahid Sayad Shirazi highway using AkaBit AD modified bitumen
Shahid Sayad Shirazi Highway in Tehran is one of the busiest highways that starts from Shahid Babaei Highway and ends at Sepah Square. Due to heavy traffic, the asphalt of this highway is subject to damage, which led to the use of resistant asphalt in the pavement of this highway.
In order to improve the quality of asphalt and implement resistant asphalt for this highway, the client (Tehran Municipal Engineering Organization) paid attention to the category of moisture durability in this project and after checking this item by the project consultant , the use of AkaBit AD modified bitumen was communicated to the contractor (Paksarshen Company) and it was used in the mentioned project in 2015.
Usually, the adhesion of bitumen to aggregates is done without problems in the absence of water, but since components are soaked with water faster and better than bitumen, the presence of water not only causes problems in the preparation of asphalt, but also in the stages of operation. It also causes damage to it and causes the loss or weakening of the adhesion of bitumen to aggregates. Asphalt stripping is also called moisture damage because it is directly caused by the presence of moisture, and of course, to make resistant asphalt for pavement, one should focus on minimizing the damages caused by stripping.
