Implementation of the asphalt project of Shams Abad industrial town using AkaBit AD modified bitumen
Shams Abad Industrial Town, located in the south of Tehran, is considered the largest industrial town in Iran and the Middle East. Due to the traffic of cars carrying parts and heavy loads, the asphalt of this town is subject to damage, which demonstrates the need of resistant asphalt to be used in the pavement of this area.
Due to the courtesy of Tehran Industrial Estates Company and Shams Abad Industrial Estate Project Consultant, to improve the quality of asphalt and prevent asphalt failures in this project, attention was paid to the category of moisture durability, and after examining this item by the project consultant, AkaBit AD modified bitumen was used in the mentioned project. This project was implemented in 2015 for the client of Tehran Industrial Estates Company.
Usually, the adhesion of bitumen to stone materials is done without problems in the absence of water, but since stone materials are soaked with water faster and better than bitumen, the presence of water not only causes problems in the preparation of asphalt, but also in the operation stages. It damages it and causes the loss or weakening of the adhesion of bitumen with aggregates. Asphalt stripping is also called moisture damage because it is directly caused by moisture, and of course, in order to make resistant asphalt for pavement, it is necessary to focus on minimizing the damage caused by stripping.
